A few days ago, I told you that I had good news and bad news. I’ve already told you the good news, if you missed it click here. The bad news is that on the 25th of this month, I’ll be having surgery to correct a hiatal hernia and GERD. Since this is a redo, they are using a different procedure than they did before, this time they’re cutting me open from breast bone to bellybutton. Due to my pain medicine intolerance, they will be doing an epidural and will keep it in for 6 days while I recover. I expect to be in the hospital for 6 nights. In my initial surgery, I had all sorts of complications. Please pray that things will go smoother this time, for Dr. Gill and Tracy as they perform the surgery, and for my pain management afterwards.
As I was praying about this God gave me a vision in which I was standing on the cusp of a valley, about to go through it. Then spoke Psalms 23:4. I especially like it in the Amplified Bible:
Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.
Just last week, as I drove by Sky Ridge Hospital, I commented to a friend that I thanked God each time I drove by that I was not a patient inside. I spent a lot of time there in the summer of 2004. So the amplified version of the sunless valley really hit home. I’m not one to sunbathe, but I love being outdoors with the sun on my face. This aspect will be especially hard for me and I will covet your prayers.

I know the Lord will be with you as you go through this experience. I’m just sorry you have to go through this again. Our prayers will be with you. And I’m so glad my knee is better so I can be with you for your surgery and recuperation. Love to you.

Jan, I will be praying for the strength and protection and peace of our God to envelop you and your hubby. As you know, Dr. Gill did my gall bladder and it turned out well. I know he is good and the Lord will be with him and Tracy. You are so dear to SO MANY people, Jan.

Any plans that the devil has to interfere or cause difficulties before, during, or after the surgery, I come against it in Jesus’ name. No weapon formed against you shall prosper. Hi Jan, I’m so sorry that for a second time you will be having this surgery. I pray that this time will correct the problem that you’re having. Jan I admire your courage as you face this procedure knowing the kind of pain you’ll face. Know I’ll be thinking of you and praying for you – I wish I could be close by to do something for you – you were such an encouragement and support to me when I went through my surgery hell last month. I’m gonna pray God will supernaturally manage the pain (I found out Percocet is NOT my friend). I’ll have my parents here in PA pray as well. I love you so much and miss you terribly!
